31 Days for Sarah

This is Sarah.

She is a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister. Sarah has been diagnosed with cancer for the 2nd time.
Read about her courageous story here.

I was inspired as I read and wept. I want to do something to help.
I read this particular post by Sarah and it really hit home.

"A week after we heard the news from my PET scan I started a new diet. I jumped in full force and have hardly looked back...well to be honest the first few weeks I dreamed of doughnuts a lot! The diet is called an Alkaline diet. I have known about this type of diet for years but never had the desire to do it...here is why: I can only eat land and ocean vegetables, almonds, unrefined oils, quinoa, millett, amaranth, and most seeds and herbs. Which has been very difficult some days, but worth it. I've been completely off of Dairy, Meats, Grains and Sugar for 31 days. Looking back on this month I am amazed and relieved that I've been able to do it. Since starting I've learned a lot of different ways to cook vegetables and they taste good! Which has been exciting for me because I love food and finding new recipes.
I'm planning on doing this phase of the diet for 3 months, and we will see where I am at that time and how I'm feeling. I have felt very strongly that I needed to change what I was putting into my body. I've asked Heavenly Father to heal my body, and in doing so I feel a great responsibility with how I am taking care of myself, and what I am eating. My Dad always taught me that "God helps those who help themselves." I know that this is true.

So my idea is this. I want to do this with Sarah, so I am challenging YOU along with me for 31 days to have no sugar and take a lot of junk out of our lives. Focus on her, focus on serving and helping others, focus on spending more time with your family, friends, outside, you get the idea. Then, if you are able to, I think it would be great to take that money that would have been spent on soda, candy or various other things and donate it to Sarah and her family. Let's fight with Sarah, and through her become better people ourselves. You can donate on Sarah's blog or at any Zion's bank under the Sarah McMullin O'Gwin donation account. This account will be open until May 2nd 2010. Start NOW, 31 days for Sarah.
Please leave a comment if you are in, and repost this on your blog too!

Last night I was feeling overwhelmed. I do hair part-time in our home and raise our 3 kids at the same time. Days like yesterday when I have few breaks to fix food, clean up ect, just gets overwhelming as I try to "do it all." I was especially feeling bad last night because I hadn't really been able to play with or teach the kids ANYTHING that day. I put the baby to bed and sent my two older kids to play upstairs while I cleaned up downstairs. I just couldn't shake my guilty feeling so I knelt down to pray. I prayed that I might be a better mom and that I might know if working part time was the right thing to do. We really need the extra income right now and it is a huge blessing that I am able to do it from home. Anyway the prayer went on and in the end I asked for help discerning the Spirit and being a better listener that I might feel the promptings and hear the still small voice so that I could be a better mother. I said Amen and my phone rang. Somehow I knew it was something. I said hello and my good neighbor was on the other end informing me that my oldest child had climbed out the window upstairs and onto the roof and that he was about to do it again. I said WHAT??!!!! and bolted up the stairs as fast as I could just in time to see Gavin sticking his legs out the window. I screamed and ran and grabbed him. I was shaking and starting crying so hard. I was TERRIFIED!! I couldn't believe he didn't' understand the danger he was in. The roof on that part of the house is VERY steep and only 2.5 feet out from the window. I am amazed he didn't fall the first time he got on the roof. He said he laid down and held on. I was sick to my stomach. He had kicked the screen out and it was just a scary sight.
I just felt so thankful that my neighbor had at that moment looked at that small part of my house and saw Gavin and called me. Just a tender mercy how the Lord works through other people. I will be forever grateful.

St. George: 2 birthdays, Easter, and a Triathalon......

We went to St George last week. I love it down there. Everytime we go I think of ways we might be able to move there. It could be because I live in subzero temperatures for 3 months during the winter. Seriously... so Hudson turned 1 on March 31st. We had such a good time. Poor little bug was all tuckered out and fell asleep in his carseat on the way home. We had to do his cake the next day. Then my little Livi turned 3 on Saturday, and a little side note she is FINALLY potty trained.
I raced in my first Triathalon EVER Saturday morning. I was so nervous but it was so fun and I ended up finishin 3rd in my division! I was so excited!
It was a great vacay and ended too soon! Now I am off to put my tired little eyes to bed!

Gavinator

Gavin has a cute little friend named Jaydin. He is in our ward and also goes to preschool with Gavin. Jaydin is black. The other day Gavin said to Jared "What color is Jaydin? Jared replied, "Well he's brown. What color are you Gavin? I think you look pink." Gavin turned on the light looked at his skin and said, " No dad, I am dark white."

Action shot

Our tough little bud is all. over. the. place. He doesn't stop moving. No wonder he's such a shrimp!! I just thought this action shot was cute of him trying to go from the tub to the toilet. Totally ate it but got right back up. This was about 2 weeks ago, now he's a pro!

"Tate"

Because this is the ONLY pic I have of him. I try not to post many pics of my self on this bloggity blog, but my darling little newphew needed his announcement. He is almost 3 weeks old now and is so cute. PERFECT baby in every way. Cutest little platinum mohawk you have ever seen.
Congrats to my baby sister her hubby and Brinley! Cant wait to see him (and you all) again!!

Mother LOve

Littlest one,

Thanks for snuggling me LOTS today. I needed it.
Thanks for your funny faces and happy little spirit that brightens our home.
I LOVE YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH,
Mom

(and yes Gavin is wearing a swim shirt and swim shorts. We are desperate for summer and spend our days playing beach inside)

Seriously, how cool is my hubby?! I was so surprised on my birthday when he showed up with this piece of work. Now I can sew and craft my little heart out!!! We still have to put the shelves in, but I LOVE it! Am I so lucky or what to have such a talented man!

A little side note. Gavin was upstairs playing for a while and he came down and said "mom, come see what I did." I closed my eyes and he led me upstairs (banging me into the wall on the way) and I opened my eyes to see that he had decorated my area. He did it all by himself and I don't know where he came up with the plate thing because no one I know has that in their house that he has seen. I thought hanging the butterfly on the blinds was a nice touch as well. Cute!!

Hudson 9 months

My little Huddy buddy is 9 months old. He is such an awesome baby, seriously. He is a total momma's boy, which I LOVE. When he wakes up or gets tired, or really any time he sees me he says mama. It makes me melt. I has been crawling since he was 6 months old the last few weeks he has been kneeling and pulling himself up on things, but still doesn't stand up on his own yet. He is happy and always smiling with his cute little dimples. He loves Gavin and loves to play anywhere Gavin is. Livi is always running away from he because he chases her and giggles. If he gets her on the floor he pulls her hair and tries to eat it. He says Hi, mama and dada. He waves to everyone and loves to clap. We love our H.B.!
